Samuel Lin, Ph.D.

Co-founder

Sam Lin earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Michigan State University in 2017. His research work in Riemannian and spectral geometry has appeared in journals including Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, Geometry and Topology, and Geometric and Functional Analysis. Before co-founding MathGym, he spent nearly a decade teaching college mathematics as a John Wesley Young Research Instructor at Dartmouth College, then as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma, and, most recently, at Colby College. He was recognized with a TA Award for Excellence in Teaching during his graduate studies.

His teaching experience spans college algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, as well as more advanced courses such as differential geometry and graduate-level topics. He has mentored undergraduates through Oklahoma's first-year research program and led independent studies in differential geometry.

Outside of mathematics, Sam is a devoted opera fan.

Wenchuan Tian, co-founder of MathGym

Wenchuan Tian, Ph.D.

Co-founder

Wenchuan Tian completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics at Michigan State University in 2021, specializing in geometric analysis, metric geometry, and conformal geometry. His earlier training — a Master's in Theoretical Physics and a Bachelor's in Physics, both from Sun Yat-sen University — gives him an unusually broad scientific background, with published research in both pure mathematics and condensed matter physics. His mathematical work has appeared in journals including Mathematische Annalen and Calculus of Variations and Partial Differential Equations.

From 2021 through 2024, Wenchuan was a Visiting Assistant Professor at UC Santa Barbara, where he taught undergraduate mathematics alongside his research, and he has presented his work at conferences and seminars across the U.S. and Canada.

Outside of math, Wenchuan enjoys making videos and exploring new AI tools — interests that shape his hands-on role in building MathGym's technology.
